MAATA Statement: Annual Meeting Cancelled

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT BELOW FROM OUR MAATA LEADERSHIP: Dear District 5 members and meeting registrants, It is with deep regret we announce the MAATA Annual meeting has been cancelled.  The rapidly changing environment of COVID-19, mass cancellations, institutional bans on travel, and concerns for safety brought us to this difficult decision.  The meeting planners put together an excellent program with a great variety of learning and social opportunities.  Please read below to learn how more about the cancellation of each of these events.  While cancelling the annual meeting was a difficult and necessary task, District 5 is committed to providing our members with the best benefits possible. Continue to follow email and website announcements for future educational opportunities.    Hotel: DO NOT call the Courtyard or Embassy suites to cancel your reservation.  Every reservation associated with our conference will AUTOMATICALLY be CANCELLED.  You will receive an automated cancellation notice in the next few days.  The hotel has been very gracious in letting us all out of our contract.  They have asked that we please not flood their desk with phone calls.   Registration refund:  Everyone who is registered will automatically receive a full refund.  The entire amount will be returned to the payer via the same mechanism it was paid.  If you have already received a partial refund, the entire amount will be returned.  Please be patient with refunds.  Our volunteer staff has a long “To Do” list.  It may take up to 30 days to receive your refund.   Education:  All continuing education sessions have been cancelled.  You cannot claim any CEUs for this event.  The meeting planners will work to identify ways to bring you some of this content in the future. Continue to read e-Blasts and monitor the District website for information.   Special events: Quiz Bowl – The Quiz Bowl is cancelled.  Participating teams will be contacted soon regarding the process for selecting a winner that will move on to the national championships in Atlanta. Grants/Scholarships/Awards – The Awards ceremony is cancelled.  All award winners will receive their plaques and awards via U.S. mail.  Hall of Fame inductees will have the opportunity to be recognized and publicly inducted at a future meeting.   Fundraisers:   The NATAPAC and NATA Foundation rely on the annual meeting for a significant portion of their District fundraising. Please consider using some of your unspent party money to make a donation or to support one of their future events   Fellowship:  This meeting is an excellent time to catch up with friends.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity.  Take the time to pick up the phone and call a fellow athletic trainer you would have seen at the meeting. These relationships are invaluable.  Use technology to overcome social distancing. Thanks to all of you for your understanding and support.  We can’t wait to see you in Atlanta.
