Rex Sharp Inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame
The Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association would like to honor and congratulate Rex Sharp, ATC on his recent induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Sharp, who is currently serving as Associate Athletic Director/Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Missouri, was enshrined into the Hall of Fame on Sunday, January 29th in Springfield, MO.Sharp began his tenure at the University of Missouri in 1996. He oversees the Dr. Glenn L. McElroy M.D. Sports Medicine, which serves as Mizzou’s primary facility for treatment and rehabilitation for athletics. He was elevated to the position of Associate Athletic Director / Sports Medicine in 2011. Sharp also serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Mizzou. He oversees a staff of 13 assistant athletic trainers, four certified graduate assistant athletic trainers and almost 80 undergraduate athletic training student interns. Sharp has been instrumental in the healthcare of countless student-athletes, while mentoring future athletic trainers.Sharp has been involved extensively professionally. He would serve as the Secretary/Treasurer of MoATA from 1997-1999. He would also serve a stint as the Chair of the MoATA College/University Athletic Training Committee. He served an eight year tenure on the NATA College and University Athletic Trainers' Committee, and was Chairman of the Big 12 Conference Medical Aspects of Sport Committee.Prior to his time at the University of Missouri, Sharp spent 11 years as head athletic trainer at Ball State University. He taught high school biology in New Albany (1979-1981), was a graduate assistant trainer at Michigan Tech (1981-1983) and was the first head athletic trainer at Northeast Missouri State, now Truman State, from 1983-1985. Sharp is a 1979 graduate of Ball State University and would go on to earn a Master of Science degree from Michigan Technological University in 1983. In addition to his recent accolades, Sharp was inducted into the Ball State University Athletic Training Hall of Fame in 2005.Please join us in congratulating Rex on this prestigious honor.
