ATs Working in the Armed Forces and Other Emerging Practices

Athletic Trainers are currently working in the Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard.  Athletic trainers provide health care services at all US Service Academies, Navy Special Warfare, School of Infantry, Officer Basic School, Initial Entry Training/Basic Training Units, Navy SMART Centers, Army Musculoskeletal Action Teams, and other areas within the military setting.Athletic Trainers who were serving in the military as reservists were providing medical coverage for the Confederation of Interallied Officer Reserve (CIOR) Military Competition training camp. The competitions clearly demonstrated the need for specialized medical care ATs provided during for these events.  It was from these early beginnings that the idea of the Armed Forces Athletic Trainers’ Society or AFATS was born. Today, AFATS membership is greater than 125, and includes AT’s working in all branches of our military, both in the continental United States and abroad. Increased numbers of AT’s working for military installations and service members going through their basic training has proven to be most beneficial and cost effective. There are current employment opportunities in several branches of service.  If you are interested in serving your country by keeping our service men and women engaged in protecting our country look at the AFATS website or the NATA Career Center.  You need not travel far….Ft Leonard Wood is hiring several ATs at this time.Athletic Training – out of this world!  A day in the life of a NASA AT
