Concussion Management PlansAthletic trainers play a critical role in the prevention and management of concussions. At many institutions, the AT has primary responsibility for the development of the concussion management plan. The AT typically leads in communication of this plan to all individuals who have roles in implementing the plan. A comprehensive concussion management plan allows for better care by centralizing communication and increasing the opportunity for appropriate medical management of concussions.The Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport (Berlin) and SCAT 5 are available for download free of charge. The consensus statement is presented in sections with new material and recommendations italicized.. The sections include: recognition; removal; re-evaluation; rest; rehabilitation; referral; recovery; return to activity; reconsidering policy; residual effects and sequelae; and risk reduction.All ATs are encouraged to use the information provided in this document as they revise the Concussion Management Plan as they for their respective organizations.
