The Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the friends and family of Clint Thompson, ATC. Clint passed away August 23rd. Clint was involved in the athletic training profession throughout his entire life. He was a graduate of the University of Texas in 1963. He would go on to serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Michigan State University, starting in 1964. He would obtain his Master of Arts from MSU in 1969. In 1970, he would head west to work with Colorado State University. In 1973, Clint would return to East Lansing to serve as the Coordinator of Athletic Training at Michigan State University, working in this role until 1985. At this point in time, he would move to Missouri to begin his tenure at Truman State University. He would serve as the Head Athletic Trainer with the Bulldogs until 2001. Throughout his career, he was heavily involved with the Journal of Athletic Training, serving as the Editor for several years. He also authored many articles during this period. He has travelled nationally and internationally, promoting the profession and educating countless people along the way. Clint has been recognized for his contributions and dedication to the athletic training profession, including induction into the Mid America Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame and the Michigan Athletic Trainers’ Society Hall of Fame. He was inducted in the NATA Hall of Fame in 2004. The Journal of Athletic Training Clint Thompson Award for Clinical Advancement is given each year to the outstanding manuscript in a category other than original research. He was inducted into the Truman State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. Clint touched the lives and hearts of the people he worked with and all of the athletes for whom he provided care throughout his career and life. His kind and caring demeanor will always be remembered and cherished. Please pause with us as we remember the life of Clint Thompson.
