MoATA Members Receive Awards
Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association members, Kate Esley and Kitty Newsham were recognized for their service to the Brain Injury Association of Missouri at the BIA-MO 13th Annual Statewide Conference in October 2017. Kate Esley received the Service Excellence Award for Public Relations for her tireless efforts to educate health care professionals and the public about the importance of recognition and appropriate management of concussions. She is the Lead Athletic Trainer and Concussion Program Coordinator for Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri Kitty Newsham received the Service Excellence Award for Prevention for her dedication to the Sport Concussions: Facts, Fallacies, and New Frontiers education programs and advocacy for brain injury related legislation. She is an associate professor at Saint Louis University. MoATA has worked closely with BIA-MO on concussion legislation and concussion education for more than a decade. MoATA is a program partner for Sports Concussions: Facts, Fallacies, and New Frontiers, a statewide education program developed to keep youth and secondary school coaches, administrators, and healthcare teams up to date on developments in sport related concussions. MoATA members also participate in the BIA-MO Bowling for Brain Injury fundraiser to support the BIA as they support individuals with brain injuries.
